Herbert Thurman Beher, 76, retired businessman of Carthage, died at 3:10 a.m. today in Rush Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since December 29. In failing health for five years, Mr. Beher had been in a serious condition the last two weeks. A lifelong Rush County resident, Mr. Beher came to Carthage when he was 15 years old. He operated Beher's Garage there for 26 years, and after closing this business in 1942, he was employed in various occupations before ill health forced his retirement. Mr. Beher was engaged in the coal business at Carthage for a time and he also was employed as a substitute mall carrier at the Carthage Post Office. He was a member of the Friends Church and the Masonic Lodge at Carthage. The Beher home is at 203 North Main in Carthage. A native of Jackson Township, he was bom December 17, 1887, a son of Oren and Laura Smith Beher, and was married in 1912 to Nell Parish, who survives. Only other survivors are two brothers, G. G. Beher of Anderson and Howard Beher of Elwood. Preceding him in death were three sisters, Mrs. Ola Stevens, Mrs. Myrtle Holt and Mrs. Abigail Overleese, and two brothers, Lot Beher and T. L. Beher. The Rev. Frank Guyatt will conduct services at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hampton Mortuary in Carthage, where friends may call after 1:30 p.m. Thursday, with burial in the Little Blue River Wesleyan Methodist Cemetery.
