Richard Heavilon, Frankfort Bank Cashier, Victim of Barn Mishap; Son at University.
Richard Heavilon, assistant cashier of the First National bank at Frankfort, and a Purdue graduate class of 1898, died at the Clinton county hospital, Frankfort, Wednesday morning of injuries received Tuesday evening when he fell from the hay-mow of a barn at his farm a mile west of Jefferson, fracturing his skull. He was in the mow. throwing down hay, when one of the boards gave way and he fell to the concrete floor below, landing on his head and side. His skull was fractured about the right eye and two ribs were broken close to the spinal cord. He was unconscious when he was taken to the Frankfort hospital and died seven hours later.
Mr. Heavilon was 49 years old and a native of Clinton county. After attending the Washington township schools he entered Purdue and after his graduation from the university he took a position as bookkeeper at the First National bank. On April 29, 1903, he married Miss Bernice Baker of Otterbein and they established their home in Frankfort. Mr. Heavilon was held in highest esteem at the bank and by the general public. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church. Surviving are the widow, a son, Ernest P., a student at Purdue and member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity; a son, Richard, Jr., at home; five brothers, Jesse, Harry, Joseph, Harold and Hobart; and three sisters, Mary and Daisy Heavilon and Mrs. Jennie Knopp. Mr. Heavilon was a brother-in-law of Dr. Ernest S. Baker of Lafayette, and of Mrs. Floyd Garrott, whose husband is the Republican nominee for joint senator from Benton and Tippecanoe counties.


Richard married Bernice Hazel Baker, daughter of Sumner Whitten Baker and Susan Alice Beeker, on 29 Apr 1903 in Otterbein, Benton, IN.1 2 3 (Bernice Hazel Baker was born on 26 Oct 1882 in Otterbein, Benton, IN,1 5 6 died on 31 Jan 1933 in West Lafayette, Tippecanoe, IN 1 5 6 and was buried on 3 Feb 1933 in Frankfort: Bunnel Cemetery, Clinton, IN 1 6.)
