5. Obituary: on 24 Jan 2011 in Lafayette, Tippecanoe, IN, USA. ¹ Dorothy I. Hill, 90, of Lafayette, formerly of Reynolds, died at 5:35 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Central. She was born May 17, 1920 in White County to the late John and Mary Beeker Hornbeck. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1938. Her marriage was to Howard Hill on June 17, 1939 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Her husband was the current White County Auditor when he preceded her in death on September 27, 1974. She was a member of Reynolds United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxilary, Reynolds Home Economics Club, and WSCS. Dorothy worked as a homemaker, and was the bookkeeper in the Livestock Auction House at Reynolds Sale Barn and Logansport Sale Barn. She and her husband also owned and operated Hill's Standard Service from 1949-1962 in Reynolds. She enjoyed playing cards, especially rook and euchre, and participated in Rook card club. She also enjoyed crocheting, and was active in real estate. Surviving are two daughters, Joyce A. Garcia (husband: Sebastian) of Tamarac, Florida, and Cheryl E. Belmont (husband: Gabriel) of Hockessin, Delaware. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Elaine Gilch (husband: Joseph), Scott Garcia (wife: Kimberly), Pamela Sopirak (husband: Ryan), and Elizabeth Nelson (husband: John), and 8 great-grandchildren Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2011, at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston with Pastor Joe Hornick officiating. Interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette. Memorials may be made in memory of Dorothy to Reynolds United Methodist Church.
