The Buchers, Geo, Jacob, John came to America for a refuge on account of the Catholic-Lutheran wars and troubles in Germany and were in time to take part in the American Revolution. One sister a maiden lady stayed behind. Later the family bible was sent over to George Bucher and in the passage the silver clasps were stolen from it. It is at this writing 215 years old, and has been given by Sam'l Bucher, eldest of the family, 82, to Dorothy Doty.

Mrs. Essleman the mother of K & Molly Essleman rode from Columbia to Bath, Steuben Co N.Y. through the wilderness with her two children and some household treasures on the horse with her. Her husband had died and she left Katherine with her father's people. She married again and lived away, probably in Ohio. Katherine married Geo Bucher the son of the man from Germany.

She was from Southern New Jersey, French (?) Quakers [? is on the original]

Anna Magdalena Walter (Bucher) was born in Germany 1776 when her son George was 16 she bought him a gun and taught him how to use it. He afterward was drafted for the War of 1812. His father had been killed by lightning. By the time he arrived in Canada whither he was sent, the war was over. E.M.B. remembers her grandmother telling how badly she felt the night that her grandfather was killed. He was at Big Flats. He was killed five miles away on Hodge's Hill. Polly & Betsy hitched the oxen and got him home. Then Polly mounted the gray horse and drove to Big Flats five miles away for help. Her grandmother had a young child in spasms with teeth. Her grandfather was now the only support of the family and had no time for schooling but helped the girls to get some for themselves.
