Devout Christian Complained of Pain in Left Side Short Time Before
Robert C.Smith, well known resident of 133 south Chestnut street, was found dead in the bath tub at his home last night at 10:30 o'clock.
The funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon, with services at the home at 1:30 o'clock, and with the Rev. C. W. Fields, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church, officiating. Burial will be made in the Odd Fellow's cemetery at Shenandoah.
Death was sudden. Mr. Smith, an employe of the Mount Carmel Water Company, returned home from work yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock.
At 4:45 o'clock he went to bed, complaining about a pain in the left side. At 8:30 o'clock medical treatment was administered. His condition seemed to be somewhat ameliorated.
He told the family doctor that he was going to enter the George F. Geisinger Memorial Hospital at an early hour this morning.
At 9:40 o'clock he got out of bed, drank a glass of milk, then went into the bath room.
Mrs. Smith went upstairs at 10:30 and when her husband failed to answer her, she forced open the door and found him dead.
Robert Charles Smith was born in Darkwater, near Pottsville, a son of the late Robert and Mary Smith, and moved to Shenandoah with his parents when he was only a youngster.
He came to Mount Carmel in 1919. His father died in 1921 at the age of 75.
His wife is a first cousin of Elmer Williams, prominent executive of the Mount Carmel Water Company.
To survive, he leaves his wife, Tillie, and the following brothers and sisters: Herbert, William, and Willard, Philadelphia; Mrs. William Kerslick, Hazleton; Mrs. William Beadle, Shenandoah; Emily, California; and Amie, Philadelphia.
Mr. Smith was a devout Christian. He did much in advancing the service of Jesus Christ.
