His occupation is listed as Stage Driver. Their birthplaces are missing on the census form. They were living in the town of New Castle within New Castle Township.

2. Census in 1860 in New Castle Twp., Schuylkill, PA. 13 The 1860 census recorded William Jacobs, day laborer, 40, living with wife, Mary, 36; and daughters Sarah J., 14, and Emma , 6. Next door (on the previous census page) is Mary A. Jacobs, servant, 16, living in a hotel owned by hotel keeper Robert Philips, 60. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. The post office was Broad Mountain.

10. Obituary: Republican and Herald: obituary of Mrs. R. C. Smith on 24 Mar 1913 in Pottsville, Schuylkill, PA. 18 Mary A., wife of Robert C. Smith Sr., died at 10:10 last night at her home, No. 208 West Cherry street, of paralysis. Mrs. Smith suffered a stroke a week ago that affected her left side She rallied and her recovery was looked for, but Sunday morning she lapsed into unconsciousness and remained in that condition until dead. The deceased was a resident of town since 1879 and was well known and enjoyed the esteem of a large circle of friends. Before her residence here she resided at St. Clair.
Mrs. Smith was 69 years old and is survived by her husband and the following daughters and sons: Mrs. W. H Kerslake, Hazleton; Mrs. William Beddall, town; Mrs. Martin Cassidy, Philadelphia; Mrs. Emily Carl, of town, and Robert Millard, of Buffalo, N. Y.; William and Heber, the latter two of Philadelphia. One brother, W. J. Jacobs, of town, and one sister, Mrs. Newton Addis, of Reading, also survive. The family has the sympathy of their many friends in their bereavement. A sad feature is that the home is under quarantine, a granddaughter of the deceased, Dolores Carl, suffering from scarlet fever. The funeral will be private.

11. Newspaper: Mount Carmel Item: Child Soon Followed Grand-Mother To Grave, 26 Mar 1913, Mount Carmel, Northumberland, PA. 19 Dolores Carl, aged seven years, who lived with her grand-mother, Mrs. Robert Smith, at Shenandoah, died this morning. Death was caused by typhoid fever. The grand-mother died several days ago.
