George died young when a sleigh got out of control on Crider's Hill and hit an iron bridge crossing the Juaniata River, on the road between Alexandria and Petersburg.

1. Census in 1850 in Alexandria, Huntingdon, PA. ⁶ [In 1850 this census taker only recorded initials rather than given names.]
G. C. Bucher, merchant, age 28, is married to S. Bucher, 28. Living with them is son J. Bucher, 3; daughter H. Bucher, 3 months old when the census was taken on 13 Aug 1850; and E. Engle, 28. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania.

2. Census in 1860 in Alexandria, Huntingdon, PA. ³ Hannah Bucher, age 80, is living with daughter Eliza, 54. Hannah's estate is valued at $15,000 for possessions with no real estate, and Eliza's at $4000 for possessions plus $8000 in real estate. Also living with them is Caroline Hatfield, 46; Charles Hatfield, 18, student; and Susan Isenburg, 23, domestic.

Next door is presumed to be Hannah's son, George C. Bucher, age 38, merchant. His estate is valued at $6,400 in real estate and $3,500 in possessions. With him is wife Susan, 37; John, 13; Hannah, 10; Amie, 8; Eliza, 6; Mary, 4; and George, 1.

George married Susan Scott, daughter of Honorable John Scott and Agnes Irvine, on 9 Dec 1845.^{1 2} (Susan Scott was born on 14 Aug 1822 in Alexandria, Huntingdon, PA ^{1 2 3 4} and died on 16 Apr 1887 in Alexandria, Huntingdon, PA ^{1 2 4}.)
