The engagement of Myra Estelle Bury, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Henry Bury, 26 N. West St., to Dr. William Henry Behringer, Philadelphia, son of Mrs. William H. Behringer, 32 N. 8th St., is announced. The wedding will take place in July. Miss Bury, who has been teaching business subjects in the Hatboro High School, Hatboro, Pa. is a graduate of the Allentown High school and Cedar Crest college. During her college career she was vice-president of her class, and a member of the Chimes club, Tabard society, Greek Drama association, Delphi society, and yearbook staff. Dr. Behringer, a graduate of the Allentown preparatory school, attended Muhlenberg college and received his degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy last year. At present he is serving his internship at the Philadelphia Osteopathic hospital. While at the College of Osteopathy, he was active in sports, co-editor of the year book, and a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Dr. Behringer is also a member of Iota Tau Sigma, osteopathic fraternity.

Dr. William H. Behringer Jr., 63, of Allentown, a cofounder of Allentown Osteopathic Hospital and an eight-term chairman of its medical staff, died Sunday night at his vacation residence at 1922 S. Ocean Lane, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was the husband of Elaine (Yorgey) Behringer.
A spokesman for the Broward County medical examiner's office said that Dr. Behringer choked to death when food, possibly a piece of meat, became lodged in his windpipe at about 6:30 p.m. Dr. Behringer was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the medical examiner's offices. No further details of the accidental death were available.
Dr. Behringer, who lived at 2824 College Drive, was an osteopathic physician and surgeon for the past 39 years. A short, stocky man with a gentle voice and manner, the proctologist was highly respected and well-known in the Lehigh Valley area. A gifted teacher, as well as a leader, Dr. Behringer was the medical patriarch of Osteopathic Hospital.
A colorful speaker and story-teller, the surgeon used to entertain audiences with his account of how Osteopathic Hospital got started in a renovated private home on Hamilton Street.
The founders had very little money and they established the hospital with pooled talent and sheer determination. Dr. Behringer recalled exploring the many rooms and stairways of the old mansion with fellow doctors to decide the best use of the space.
And with doctors and dedicated board members, he helped develop the primative facility into a well-equipped modern hospital.
Dr. Behringer opened his first Allentown office at 944 Walnut St. in 1939. His office location has been 1129 Walnut St.
He graduated from the Philadelphia College ol Osteopathy in 1939, setting up practice and immediately becoming involved in state and national medical groups. He was a past president of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Association, and a past president of the American Osteopathic College of Proctology.
He became a specialist in proctology in 1950.
Dr. Behringer helped found Allentown Osteopathic Hospital in 1943. and in January was named to his eighth term as chairman of the hospital's staff.
He was a member of the Muhlenberg Medical Center staff, a trustee of the American Red Cross, and Osteopathic Hospital's representative to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Planning Council.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late William H. Sr. and Anna (Neiser) Behringer.
He was a member of St. James United Church of Christ, Allentown.
Surviving besides his widow are a daughter Janet, wife of Keith Grill of Pittsburgh; three sons, Dr. William H. of Villanova, Montgomery County, Lewis K. of Catasauqua, and Jess S. of Annapolis, Md.; a sister, Mrs. Gretchen Hightower; a stepdaughter Sally, wife of William Geschel of Washington Crossing, N.J.; a step son Thomas Wehr of Stines Corner, and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the J. S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Inc., 16th and Hamilton streets, Allentown. Calling hours will be 7-8:30p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.


William married Myra Estelle Bury, daughter of Frank Henry Bury and Katie Isabelle Knerr, on 17 Jul 1939 in Allentown, Lehigh, PA.1 (Myra Estelle Bury was born on 5 Sep 1911 in Allentown, Lehigh, PA 11 12 13, christened on 22 Oct 1911 in Allentown, Lehigh, PA 14 and died on 24 Dec 2011 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA 12 13 15.)
