Also in the home is Albert Burkholder, 79, a lodger. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania.

5. Newspaper: Record-Argus: Two Persons Injured in Wednesday Mishap, 6 Jul 1950, Greenville, Mercer, PA. 17 Two persons were slightly injured Wednesday evening in an automobile accident in New Vernon Township three miles southwest of New Lebanon.
Oakley R. and Merle Gilliland, Sandy Lake R. D. 2, sustained minor lacerations of the scalp when a car driven by Oakley was hit in the rear by a vehicle driven by George R. Biecher, 17, Chambersburg.
Both cars were traveling west on Route 358 when Gilliland stopped to ask directions of a farmer, state police at Mercer report.
Total damage to both vehicles was estimated by police at $175.

6. Newspaper: News-Herald: Sandy Lake Area Brothers Injured, 7 Jul 1950, Franklin, Venango, PA. 18 Two Sandy Lake district brothers suffered minor injuries Wednesday night when their car rammed into the rear of another on a New Vernon Township highway.
Oakley Gilliland, 26, and his brother, Merle, 25, R. D. 2, Sandy Lake, were treated at a Sandy Lake doctor's office for cuts on the scalp and bruises and then permitted to go home. Almost $100 damage was cause to their car, according to State Police from Mercer.
The Gilliland car, with Oakley driving, ran into the rear of one operated by George Biecher, Jr., 17, of Chambersburg, on Route 285 three miles west of New Lebanon. Biecher was stopped on the highway inquiring road directions from a farmer when the accident occurred.

Beicher suffered a broken back with partial paralysis, His condition today was listed as satisfactory.
An employe of the United Telephone Company, Biecher was repairing a cable near the North Middleton Township Elementary School when the snap on the sling supporting the platform unhooked, and he fell 20 feet to the ground.
The injured man is the son of George Biecher, 139 E. Catherine St., chemistry teacher at the Chambersburg Area Senior High School.

United Men Observe Anniversary

Two Carlisle area men recently celebrated 20 years of services each with the United Telephone Company of Pennsylvania. They are George R. Biecher, 20 G St., Carlisle, and Donald L. Mentzer, Plainfield. Biecher joined the company in 1952 as a cable helper in the company's Chambersburg District. In 1959, he came to Carlisle as a cable splicer and in 1961 became a testman. Mentzer joined the company in 1952 as a groundman. In 1957, he became a lineman, and in 1960 an installer-repairman. In 1970, he became a testboard man. Biecher is a graduate of Chambersburg High School and he has attended company-sponsored seminars in long line equipment and carrier equipment. He is active in the A Street Church of Christ where he serves as a deacon. He and his wife, Glenda F. Leeper, have two children, Mary Grace and James.

He died Saturday, July 18, 1998 following a lengthy illness.
A graduate of Chambersburg High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired as an engineer from United Telephone Co. in Carlisle.
He was a former member and deacon of Carlisle Church of Christ and a current member of Warrenton Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Leeper Biecher of Warrenton; a son, James Risser of Warrenton; a daughter, Mari Grace Barnhart of Boiling Springs; and two granddaughters.
A memorial service will also be held in Warrenton Church of Christ on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
After being cremated, his cremains will be returned to his wife, Glenda.
Memorial contributions can be made to either congregation of the Church of Christ.

George R. "Bud" Biecher, 65, of Warrenton, formerly of Carlisle, Pa., died July 18, 1998, at home, following a lengthy illness.

A graduate of Chambersburg High School, he served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired on disability as an engineer from United Telephone Co. (Sprint) in Carlisle. He was a former deacon and member of the Carlisle Church of Christ, and more recently a member of the Warrenton Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda "Penny" Leeper Biecher of Warrenton; a son, James Risser of Warrenton; a daughter, Mari Grace Barnhart of Boiling Springs, and two granddaughters.

A memorial service took place at Carlisle Church of Christ on July 21, and at Warrenton Church of Christ on July 22.

Memorial contributions may be made to either Church of Christ.


George married Glenda Faye Leeper, daughter of James Franklin Leeper and Mary Lenore Gray, on 5 Mar 1955 in Mifflintown, Juniata, PA.1 2 (Glenda Faye Leeper was born on 19 Aug 1933 in Mifflintown, Juniata, PA 1 2 26 27 and died on 3 Nov 2020 in Warrenton, Fauquier, VA 2.)
