Jury Awards Woman $1,000 Damages Against City.

Five hundred dollars an inch is the value placed on the right leg of Mrs. Annie H. Beecher by a jury in the City Court, in rendering a verdict for $1,000 to Mrs. Beecher in her suit against the Mayor and City Coucnil for injuries that shortened the lim two inches.
Mrs. Beecher, who was represented by Attorney C. Arthur Eby, declared that she tripeed over a wooden plank placed in the walkway in Lexington Market in front of the fish stall of William R. Nizer last December. Her hip was broken by the fall, with the result that her limb became two inches shorter.
The suit was brought against the city and Nizer, who operates the stall, but the jury absolved the fish merchant and held the city liable. Former Attoney-General Edgar Allen Poe and Francis Michel appeared for Nizer.

14. Newspaper: Baltimore Sun: J. Gregg Beecher Sued The City, 31 Jan 1920, Baltimore, Baltimore, MD. 19 For the loss of services of his wife, Annie H. Beecher, and expenses incurred by him because of injuries sustained by her when she was thrown to the ground by stumbling over a plank in Lexington Market, J. Gregg Beecher sued the city and W. R. Nizer for $5,000 damages in the Court of Common Pleas through c. Arthur Eby, attorney. The accident offurred December 14, 1918, in front of Mr. Niger's stalls.

Will is signed on 7 Nov 1928 as J. Gregg Beecher. Witness signing: Paul L. Sutor, Charles N. Benson, and James G. Cain. Following the signature on 28 Mar 1931 Gregg appended "On account of the death of the two beneficiaries namely Daisy L. Chambury and Paul L. Sutor their share in my estate is null and void."
