2. Newspaper: Republican and Herald: A Thrilling Rescue By Two Town Boys, 3 Jul 1907, Pottsville, Schuylkill, PA. 19 William the 9-year-old son of W. J. Jacobs the West Oak street tailor had a narrow escape from drowning at the Kehley Run colliery dam yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, and his rescue was effected by the rare presence of mind and bravery of George Boyd, 12 year old son of Division Supt. Adam Boyd, and Chester Davis, the 8 year old son of Jesse B. Davis. The boys were aking for mully-grubs and young Jacobs slipped from a stone into a hole where the water was six feet deep. Young Boyd at the time was looking in another direction, and his attention was called to his chum's danger by the shouts of young Davis and another boy. Jacobs as he was going down for the third time yelled help, and Boyd Instantly plunged after him being guided to the spot by the boy's cap which floated in the water. With unerring Instinct Boyd dove to the side of his chum and pinioning both of Jacobs arms to his body with his right hand he swam to the surface using his left hand and his feet, and was soon able to reach the outstretched hand of young Davis who did what he could to draw the other two boys to safety. Exhausted all three laid on the bank, and after their clothes had dried somewhat they walked home, where young Jacobs after telling the story to his parents collapsed. It was certainly a narrow escape and the young heroes who effected the rescue deserve medals for their bravery.
