An ordinary pair of trousers, taken Saturday to be cleaned at the Vapor laundry, Del Monte avenue, Monterey, resulted in the arrest last night of three men on a serious charge and allegedly cleared up a mystery that hard puzzled county officers for nearly a year.
The three men are Fred Jackson. Art Beecher and William Beecher, all of Monterey. Today, it is reported, they will be charged either with burglary or possession of stolen property.
On the night of September 23. 1928, an entrance was forced to the Vapor laundry and 24 suits of clothing and an adding machine were reported stolen.
Saturday a Monterey resident took a pair of trousers to the Vapor laundry to be cleaned. Although identification marks had been cut from the garment, the trousers were recognized as part of the loot secured last year.
Sheriff Carl H. Abbott and Constable George Kinloch are said to have traced part of the stolen property to Jackson's home
At the time of Jackson's arrest he allegedly was wearing a pair of trousers which had been stolen from the laundry. According to county officers, Jackson said he purchased the pants from the Beechers.
At Beecher's residence, several suits, allegedly stolen, and the t adding machine were found by the officers. Art and William Beecher declared they had found the adding machine on the city s dumping grounds and had purchased the clothing from the Salvation army.

The four men allegedly implicated in the burglarizing of the Vapor laundry, Monterey, last year, and arrested last Monday by Sheriff Carl H. Abbott and constable George Kinloch were arraigned late yesterday afternoon before Judge Ray Baugh, at Monterey. Three members of the quartette formally were charged with burglary, while the fourth, William Beecher, was released on grounds of insufficient evidence. The three who were returned to the county jail here are Art Beecher, Fred Jackson and Elmer Perry. Officers still are seeking a fifth man, John Beecher, who is said to have figured in the laundry robbery. The Vapor laundry was entered on the night of September 23, 1928, when 24 suits of clothing and an adding machine were stolen. The adding machine and several of the suits have been recovered with the arrest of the Monterey men.

The child and his mother were born in California, the others and their parents in Pennsylvania. Mary's father was born in Nevada and mother in Texas.

William Jacob Beecher, Jr., seven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Beecher of Los Angeles, was fatally Injured Christmas day in an automobile accident near Hollister, while the family was en route here for a holiday visit with relatives in Oak Grove
When about four miles from Hollister a tire on the Beecher car blew out as it was crossing a bridge. The side of the car crashed against the superstructure of the bridge, the Impact shattering a glass wind wing. a fragment of which penetrated the lad's head behind his ear. He was rushed to a Hollister hospital, where he died a few hours later.
The boy, who was the Beechers' only child, was born in Monterey where his parents had lived for the last 15 years. His father was employed by the Guy P. Atkinson company on the local breakwater until a short time ago when he was sent to Southern California on another project.
Funeral services were to be held 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Paul mortuary, with interment in El Carmelo cemetery. An inquest will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning in Hollister.
