World War Veteran Is Caught In Rush of Coal While Working In A Chute.
Emil Micun, well-known Morea resident, was almost instantly killed about 10 o'clock this morning when he was caught in a rush from a rib while working in a chute in the Morea mine. Dr. Wasel Maholage, company physician, was summoned, entered the mine to render medical assistance, but Micun was beyond human aid, Death was caused by a broken back and a broken vertebrae, Reverend Joseph Klosinski, rector of St. Casimir's Polish R. C. church, of town, also entered the mine to administer the last rites of his church to the accident victim. The body was released by Deputy Coroner Frank W. Boczkowski, of town, to Funeral Director Francis X. Swirk for preparation for burial.
The departed was a native of Poland, but had resided in the United States for a number of years. For the past fifteen years he had resided at Morea, coming there from Detroit. During the World War he served in the United States Army, and was a member of Hall-Reese Post 1420, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of St. Casimir's Polish R. C. church, town, and was also a member of several parish organizations including St. Casimir's and St. Joseph's societies. His survivors include his wife, the former Julia Brach, of New Boston; four children, Theresa, Genevieve, Eleanor and Emil, Jr., and two stepchildren, Walter and Florence Swistak. His mother, residing in Poland, also survives, as well as relatives in that country, Detroit and New Jersey.
Funeral arrangements remain to be completed. Francis X, Swirk is the funeral director in charge.

Obituary: Shamokin News-Dispatch: Miner is Killed By Fall of Coal on 14 Sep 1938 in Shamokin, Northumberland, PA. 16 Emil MIcum, 53, Morea, a contract miner at Morea Colliery, was killed instantly shortly before noon yesterday when he was caught under a heavy fall of coal and rock in a breast while dressing down shattered coal at the face of the working place.
Micum, a veteran of the World War, was an experienced miner and had been employed at Morea Colliery many years. His widow, four children and two step-children survive.

Newspaper: Mount Carmel Item: Find Miner Died Accidentally, 22 Sep 1938, Mount Carmel, Northumberland, PA. 15 A coroner's jury inquiring into the death of Emil Micun, Morea World War Veteran, killed at Morea Mines rendered the following verdict on Wednesday evening after hearing the various witnesses: "We, the jury, find that the late Emil Micun came to his death accidentally when caught under a fall of coal and timber in the Morea mine on the morning of Sept. 13."


Emil married Julia A. Brach, daughter of Jan Kanty Brach and Apolonia "Pauline" Rutazia, on 10 May 1922 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA.1 2 (Julia A. Brach was born on 25 Apr 1899 in New Boston, Schuylkill, PA, United States,21 22 23 24 died on 12 Jul 1966 in Ashland, Schuylkill, PA 22 23 24 and was buried on 16 Jul 1966 in Shenandoah Heights: Saint Casimir Roman Catholic Cemetery, Schuylkill, PA 8 23 24.)
