Also in the home are David Groff, 13; Louis Groff, 10; Henry Hornstraw, 17; John Stouder, 25; Jacob Landis, 19; Joseph Heuber, 21; and Caroline Sutz, 17, servant. Henry was born in Germany, everyone else in Pennsylvania. We presume these are live-in employees, although the Groff children could be Henrietta's from a first marriage? The post office listed is Oregon.

Also on this census page is Mary Beecher, age 35, occupation "lady". Her real estate is valued at $7,000 and possessions at $400. Living with her must be her son or brother, John Beecher, 16; Ellen Reese, 11; Mary Brown, 22, servant; and Samuel Grube, 55, plasterer. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania.

11. Obituary: Lancaster Daily Inteligencer on 9 Jan 1889 in Lancaster, Lancaster, PA. ⁸ John S. Beecher died at his home, 39 West Lemon street, of an acute affection of the stomach, in the 43d year of his age. Deceased was a native of Bareville and a son of Samuel W. Beecher. He came to Lancaster many years ago and for seventeen years was a freight handler at the Pennsylvania railroad station. During the war he served three years as a member of Battery A., Fifth U.S. Artillery. He was a member of Admiral Reynolds Post, G. A. R., and of the Veteran Legion.

Beecher, who lived on West Lemon street, was held this afternoon and the interment was made at Lancaster cemetery. Post 405, of which deceased was a member, attended in a body, and Rev. Gray conducted the services.

13. Obituary: Semi-Weekly New Era on 12 Jan 1889 in Lancaster, Lancaster, PA. ¹ Death After Long Suffering.
Mr. John S. Beecher, son of Mr. Samuel H. Beecher, died at his residence, No. 39 West Lemon street, Tuesday evening between six and seven o'clock, in the forty-sixth year of his age, after an illness of two months from ulceration of the stomach. Deceased had been for seventeen years a freight handler at the Pennsylvania freight station, this city, and was greatly respected by all who knew him. During the war he served for three years as a member of the Fifth United States Artillery, and at the time of his death he was a member of Post 405, Grand Army the Republic and of Veteran Legion No. 14. A wife and two sons survive.
