Claude Edward Bucher, a World War 1 veteran, died at 1:55 o'clock this morning at his home, 239 Penn street. He had been in failing health for the past year with a heart condition and had been seriously ill and bedfast since August 30.
He was 50 years of age and was born and lived all his life in Sunbury. He was formerly employed by Susquehanna Inc., as a slasher.
April 11, 1917 he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served as a private with Company B, 107th Machine Gun Battalion. He went overseas and took part in a number of major engagements. He was discharged May 2, 1919 at Camp Dix, N. J.
Mr. Bucher was married 31 years to the former Hazel Silverwood. His parents were the late Samuel P. and Jennie Henninger Bucher.
He was a member of the Sunbury Steam Fire Company No. 1, and the Northumberland Hook and Ladder Company.
Surviving is his wife, Hazel; seven children, Mrs. Sara Strausser, Mrs. Margaret Aurand, Claude S. Bucher, Ralph Bucher and John Bucher, all of Sunbury; Lester Bucher, at home; Mrs. Frances Ernst, Cleveland, O.; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Dornsife Funeral Home with Rev. W. Josselyn Reed, pastor of St. Matthew's Episcopal church, officiating. Interment will be in Sunbury Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday evening between and 9 o'clock. The services will in charge of Post 201, American Legion.
