Newspaper: Republican Herald, 4 Jun 2014, Pottsville, Schuylkill, PA. 10 SHENANDOAH \endash Sister Jeanette Maria Keszkowski of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and Barbara Beacher Eiche were honored by Trinity Academy students, faculty, administration and parents during a prayer service on Wednesday on their retirements from education.
Both women have a combined 105 years of service to Catholic education in schools throughout the area, and the afternoon prayer service at Annunciation BVM Roman Catholic Church gave the school community an opportunity to thank both of them for their dedication as educators.
The love and gratitude was shown not only by the students still taking classes, but also from the members of the eighth-grade class, who graduated on Tuesday evening. Even though their school year ended the day before, they attended the service to recognize the influence of Keszkowski and Eiche in their lives.
Keszkowski entered IHM in September 1953 and made her first vows in March 1956. She has served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the Diocese of Allentown and the Diocese of Harrisburg. Her parents were immigrants from Poland who settled in Shenandoah and later moved to a farm near Bloomsburg. She has worked in several coal region schools: Little Flower, McAdoo (1971-73); Immaculate Conception, Jim Thorpe (1973-77); Queen of Peace, Shamokin (1985-97); and Immaculate Heart, Girardville (1997-2006). Keszkowski taught until her assignment to Girardville, where she began assisting in the school in different capacities. She was assigned to Shenandoah when Immaculate Heart School, Holy Family School in Frackville and Father Walter Ciszek School in Shenandoah merged into Trinity Academy.
Eiche, Frackville, was born and raised in Shenandoah Heights. She attended Alvernia College, Bloomsburg University and Penn State University, earning a master's degree in education. She taught at St. Francis of Assisi School, Minersville (1965-69); St. Mauritius School, Ashland (1969-72); Immaculate Heart School, Girardville (1972-2006); and Trinity Academy (2006 to present). One of her students was the Rev. Robert Finlan, who is president of the Trinity Academy Board of Pastors and pastor of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Parish, Frackville.
Student Ariel Stanulonis welcomed everyone as the service began to celebrate the many years the two women contributed to Catholic education. After the reading of the Gospel according to St. Luke on the visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to her cousin, St. Elizabeth, a reflection on the Gospel reading was provided by third-grade teacher Kim Kringe.
