SUNBURY \emdash Charles W. Bucher, 74, of 110 Alice St., died at his home at 9 a.m. Friday. Born in Sunbury Aug. 20, 1920, he was a son of the late Harvey and Grace Niehoff Bucher. A World War II veteran, he served with the Army as a staff sergeant with Co. A, 3112th Signal Service Battalion in the European Theater. Mr. Bucher graduated in 1940 from Sunbury High School.

He retired in 1972 after 28 years as a rate clerk for Hall's Motor Co. of Sunbury. After he retired, he was employed by Champ Hats Inc. of Sunbury and later by Treeland Nursery of Selinsgrove RD. He was of the Lutheran faith.

Mr. Bucher was a life member of the Rescue Hose Company of Sunbury, a life member of the Sunbury Social Club, and a member of American Legion Post 201 of Sunbury, the Brotherhood of Teamsters Union, and the American Association of Retired Persons. He was affiliated with Sunbury Little League baseball. Surviving are his wife, the former Allie Louise Herrold, to whom he was married for 54 years; three sons, Glen, Tommy, and John, all of Sunbury; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are a sister, June Holub of Sunbury, and a brother, Douglas Bucher of Sunbury.

A sister, Eleanor Wian, and a brother, Chester Bucher, preceded him in death. The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in the Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut St. The Rev. Adrian Shearer of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sunbury, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. Visitors may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.


Charles married Allie Louise Herrold, daughter of Ralph Otto Herrold and Helen Mary Krick. (Allie Louise Herrold was born on 28 Feb 1920 in Sunbury, Northumberland, PA,6 7 died on 31 Dec 1996 in Sunbury, Northumberland, PA 6 7 and was buried on 4 Jan 1997 in Stonington: Northumberland Memorial Park, Northumberland, PA 6 7.)
