Paul P. Rambo, 45, newly elected president of the New Castle County Volunteer Fire men's Association, died unexpectedly early this morning. He was stricken at home, 111 Oak Ave., Elsmere, and taken to Wilmington General Hospital by the Elsmere Volunteer Fire Co. ambulance. He was pronounced dead on arrival. Mr. Rambo was chief of the Elsmere Fire Co. for seven years before his retirement last January. He was re-elected this year and was to have been installed next month. Mr. Rambo was a past president of the New Castle County Fire Chiefs' Association and the Delaware State Fire Chiefs Association. He also served as a director of the latter organization. He was a member of the First State Fire Commission and the executive committee of the Delaware Volunteer Firemen's Association. Mr. Rambo began his firefighting career as a runner for the Elsmere Fire Company 28 years ago. In recent years he was fire fighting line officer with the company as well as its chief. Long interested in fire prevention and improved fire fighting techniques, he was instrumental in the formation of the New Castle County Fire Board and was on its advisory council. He was active also in developing the New Castle County Fire School, now under construction at Greater Wilmington Airport. Mr. Rambo was president of the Elsmere Town Council in 1953-54. He was a partner in Rambo and Symonds Co., a dry wall contracting firm, and a member of the Elsmere Presbyterian Church, the Newport Rotary Club and the Greenville Lions Club. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Olivia F. Rambo; two sons, David M., and Richard Paul Rambo, at home; and his mother, Mrs. Margaret A. Rambo, also of the Oak Avenue address. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Elsmere Presbyterian Church, New Road and Ohio Avenue, Elsmere. Interment will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday evening at the Griffith Mortuary, 1400 New Road, Elsmere. The family suggests contributions to the Elsmere Fire Company building fund. The Auxiliary of the Elsmere Fire Company announced today that it is canceling its shrimp feast scheduled for 8 p.m. tomorrow in the fire hall, due to Mr. Rambo's death.
