Oradell Incumbents Lose Board Seats
-----
Warner, Howell, Mrs. Beacher Win; All Budget Items Approved
-----
Oradell -- Both incumbents were handily defeated, while Mrs. Isabel Beacher, Frederick Howell, and Donald Warner were elected to full 3-year terms in yesterday's Board of Education elections.
WARNER TOP VOTE-GETTER
The losers, Trustee Kenneth Bartlett received 297 votes, and trustee Leslie Gerdts, 263, while other losing candidate, John Stropnicky Jr., polled 360 votes.
Warner received the most votes, 437; Howell, 423; and Mrs. Beacher, 384. The three winners ran in support of each other.
Probably the most surprising aspect of the election was the total of 790 votes cast as compared to 397 in 1958.
All budget items and the single proposition were carried. The current expense item of $283,227 received 404 yes votes to 351 no votes; the repairs and replacement item of $25,000, 428 yes to 311 no; and authorization to raise $1,100 for furniture and equipment, 412 yes to 311 no.
However, the voters in District 3 gave 107 votes in support of the current expense item, and the same number of votes to defeat it.
Gerdts, finance chairman, and Bartlett, building and grounds chairman, have served one full term. Trustee Freeland Hobart, who has served for 5 years, will retire at tonight's board meeting.
The defeat of the incumbents may be an indication of public feeling on the Board's proposal to build a new school. Both had strongly supported the proposal. Board Secretary Edward Zeller announced that the reorganizational meeting will take place Monday at 8 P. M. at the public school library.
After the election. Board President George Crawford said that he was gratified about the large turnout of voters and that the school budget was supported and passed.
